{"id":1982,"date":"2011-03-21T21:36:29","date_gmt":"2011-03-22T02:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=1982"},"modified":"2011-03-21T21:36:29","modified_gmt":"2011-03-22T02:36:29","slug":"blossoms-galore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=1982","title":{"rendered":"Blossoms Galore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>March 21, 2011 (Vernal Equinox &#8211; First Day of Spring)<\/p>\n<p>I love blossoms.\u00a0 Flowers of all sorts thrill and amaze me, but blossoms, especially spring&#8217;s first ones, almost defy words to do them justice.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1994\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8307.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1994\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1994\" title=\"The First Blossoming Tree of Spring\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8307-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8307-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8307-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8307.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1994\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blossom Vanguard<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Blossoms fascinate.\u00a0 I will never forget when, at 10 or 11, I saw a daffodil that had pushed its way through newly laid asphalt, steam-rolled hard and flat.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t believe it.\u00a0 For many years I kept a small hunk of the pavement the flower had pushed aside, possibly as a token of life&#8217;s ultimate victory.\u00a0 I now see every spring-blooming bulb repeating this unlikely feat of light-touched strength.\u00a0 Every crocus, daffodil, hyacinth and tulip performs the same mighty work: a flower emerging from a cold, bare, hard place.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Then the trees.\u00a0 Platoons of crabapples, plums, cherries and dozens more whose names I don&#8217;t know, are already on the move around here.\u00a0 I&#8217;m ready to surrender to these armies that encircle, the legions of blossoms on trees that win me by their sheer, sumptuous mass.\u00a0 Rank on rank, row by row, spring tree&#8217;s blossoms conquer, take captive, and enslave all for one purpose: to adore them.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, fruit.\u00a0 Not much from first flowers but soon, each blossoming plant will bear a promise to bear a fruit.\u00a0 After all these years a gardener, I can still scarcely take it in.\u00a0 How does a tiny seed become a plant, ultimately with a blossom that becomes a fruit, itself filled with seeds to plant and start the cycle over again.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1995\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8373.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1995\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1995\" title=\"Life emerges...\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8373-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8373-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8373-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_8373.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1995\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">...from the most unlikely places<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 21, 2011 (Vernal Equinox &#8211; First Day of Spring) I love blossoms.\u00a0 Flowers of all sorts thrill and amaze me, but blossoms, especially spring&#8217;s first ones, almost defy words to do them justice.
