{"id":2451,"date":"2011-04-22T06:55:46","date_gmt":"2011-04-22T10:55:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=2451"},"modified":"2011-04-22T06:55:46","modified_gmt":"2011-04-22T10:55:46","slug":"bombay-letter-6-addendum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=2451","title":{"rendered":"Bombay Letter 6 &#8211; addendum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Written in early April, 1998.\u00a0 I added this paragraph to the <a title=\"Bombay Letter 6\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=2318\">longer letter<\/a> Anita wrote.)<\/p>\n<p>Gary here.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a cute story.\u00a0 One of our wedding gifts in July of 1981 was a subscription to National Geographic.\u00a0 We have been receiving it ever since.\u00a0 By accident, all our past issues, neatly packed in a box, arrived in India.\u00a0 One day we were looking through them for articles about India.\u00a0 The July 1981 issue (the first one we received, published the month of our wedding) has an article about Bombay!\u00a0 Prophetic!\u00a0 Page 105 shows an aerial view of a major intersection about 5 minutes from our home and work.<\/p>\n<p>The article is still fairly current even though it is 17 years old.\u00a0 That tells you something about India. \u00a0 Interestingly, the May 1997 issue on page 24-25 shows the same view of the same intersection at night but 16 years later.\u00a0 And in an amazing twist of irony, the February 1998 issue of National Geographic (the first one we received after arriving here in Bombay) has a story about the National Pike, U.S. Highway 40, with several pictures of Grantsville, Maryland (the highway runs smack dab through town).\u00a0 It contains photos of very familiar sights and even some kids our children knew when we lived there.\u00a0 We move to Bombay, India and Garrett County, Maryland suddenly becomes exotic!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Written in early April, 1998.\u00a0 I added this paragraph to the longer letter Anita wrote.)
