Four score and seven years ago
\nour fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation,
\nconceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition
\nthat all men are created equal.
\nNow we are engaged in a great civil war,
\ntesting whether that nation, or any nation,
\nso conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.
\nWe are met on a great battle-field of that war.
\nWe have come to dedicate a portion of that field,
\nas a final resting place for those who here gave their lives
\nthat that nation might live.
\nIt is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
\nBut, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate,
\nwe can not consecrate,
\nwe can not hallow this ground.
\nThe brave men, living and dead,
\nwho struggled here, have consecrated it,
\nfar above our poor power to add or detract.
\nThe world will little note, nor long remember what we say here,
\nbut it can never forget what they did here.
\nIt is for us the living, rather,
\nto be dedicated here to the unfinished work
\nwhich they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.
\nIt is rather for us
\nto be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us\u2014
\nthat from these honored dead we take increased devotion
\nto that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion\u2014
\nthat we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain\u2014
\nthat this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom\u2014
\nand that government of the people,
\nby the people,
\nand for the people,
