{"id":3935,"date":"2011-06-25T08:34:35","date_gmt":"2011-06-25T12:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=3935"},"modified":"2011-06-25T08:34:35","modified_gmt":"2011-06-25T12:34:35","slug":"from-the-brides-fathers-notebook-day-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=3935","title":{"rendered":"From the Bride&#8217;s Father&#8217;s Notebook &#8211; Day 13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday &#8211; New Year&#8217;s Day, 2010<\/p>\n<p>Today we said good bye to our two sons and their significant others.\u00a0 Always sad to see them go.\u00a0 Especially poignant for our our oldest who lives with his wife in Accra, Ghana, West Africa.\u00a0 So far away.\u00a0 Our time together, the talking, the eating and drinking, the sharing of once-in-a-lifetime moments (a wedding, an engagement), the shared stories and jokes; all these combined to make the partings a little melancholy.\u00a0 The only good thing about them leaving is that it marked the beginning of our returning to normal life, normal time.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re pooped.\u00a0 Exhaustion had pulled up a chair in our brains, popped some popcorn, gotten chips and dip and a few beers, and was fiddling with the t.v. to find the game.\u00a0\u00a0We \u00a0should have done the same except that with what energy we had left, we wanted to\u00a0spend time with the bride and groom before they departed.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll tell you one thing we sure didn&#8217;t have to do and that&#8217;s cook.\u00a0 Leftovers practically poured out of the fridge.\u00a0 We had to tie a few straps around it to keep the door shut (just kidding, but needing to do that wouldn&#8217;t have surprised me.)\u00a0 <!--more-->Not only did we still have ham and cheeses and fruits and breads left from the reception, but also from other meals served to groups, like grilled hamburgers on New Year&#8217;s Eve and I think even some turkey (always leftover turkey) from the previous Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>That evening we drove\u00a0to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial along the Tidal Basin in Washington.\u00a0 I always love visiting the FDR.\u00a0 It is lovely in all seasons and at all times of the day.\u00a0 Single digit temperatures and fierce wind chills made us walk briskly.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t stay long, but it was a good way to force ourselves to stay awake just a bit more, the frigid cold forcing our weary bodies to finish that day&#8217;s race to the prize at the end: a much deserved, long night&#8217;s sleep.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Friday &#8211; New Year&#8217;s Day, 2010 Today we said good bye to our two sons and their significant others.\u00a0 Always sad to see them go.\u00a0 Especially poignant for our our oldest who lives with his wife in Accra, Ghana, West &hellip; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=3935\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[40],"tags":[118,606,605,133,607],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3935"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=3935"}],"version-history":[{"count":11,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3935\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4031,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3935\/revisions\/4031"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=3935"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=3935"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=3935"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
