{"id":4115,"date":"2011-08-04T06:00:52","date_gmt":"2011-08-04T10:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=4115"},"modified":"2017-04-21T12:30:54","modified_gmt":"2017-04-21T16:30:54","slug":"socks-outside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=4115","title":{"rendered":"Socks Outside"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I took my lunch break wearing socks,<br \/>\nI walked outside for several blocks<\/p>\n<p>My shoes were new they hurt my feet,<br \/>\nTurned my poor heels to raw, red meat.<\/p>\n<p>The pain was getting so intense,<br \/>\nTo walk much more just made no sense.<\/p>\n<p>I took them off, I stepped right out,<br \/>\nThe cool relief \u2019bout made me shout.<\/p>\n<p>I walked as normal down the street,<br \/>\nIn shirt, tie, pants, and stocking feet.\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I padded down the sidewalk there,<br \/>\nMet several, odd, inquiring stares.<\/p>\n<p>Right in the heart of old D.C.,<br \/>\nMy socks, to all, were plain to see.<\/p>\n<p>I first went down to mail a card,<br \/>\nThe pavement wasn&#8217;t all that hard.<\/p>\n<p>I then sat in the sun to eat,<br \/>\nA sandwich full of luncheon meat.<\/p>\n<p>Still wearing socks they felt so good,<br \/>\nWas feeling free of must and should.<\/p>\n<p>When my repast was over and done,<br \/>\nI walked right back (I couldn&#8217;t run).<\/p>\n<p>And this time kept my new shoes off,<br \/>\nI did not care if folks would scoff.<\/p>\n<p>I stepped into the elevator,<br \/>\nI&#8217;d worry &#8217;bout propriety later.<\/p>\n<p>I got back to my desk, my space,<br \/>\nBut torture shoes did not replace.<\/p>\n<p>I think this has a moral, dear,<br \/>\nSo lean way over, lend an ear.<\/p>\n<p>If you wear things that make you vain,<br \/>\nbut ultimately give you pain<\/p>\n<p>Then stop, pause, halt, desist and quit,<br \/>\nand only buy things that really fit.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I took my lunch break wearing socks, I walked outside for several blocks My shoes were new they hurt my feet, Turned my poor heels to raw, red meat.
