I took a bite of a childhood summer:
\ntart, firm, crisp, satisfying,
\nfelt the juice of it dripping down my chin,
\nsplashing on my shirt.<\/p>\n
I saw two gnarled apple trees,
\nfive smudged children,
\nand dozens of apples,
\ngreen golf balls hanging and grounded,
\nhalf-eaten handfuls of sticky freedom.<\/p>\n
I heard don’t eat the apples,
\ndon’t climb the trees,
\nwatch out for those children:,
\nwarnings I’m learning just now
\nnot to heed too much,
\njuice I’m letting drip and run,
