Write it Down!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you talk to yourself?\u00a0 Write it down.\u00a0 Carry a small notebook with you wherever you go so you can be your own secretary, taking down the notes, the words, the ideas you are speaking in your own mind.\u00a0 Sitting on the bus right now, a few minutes before I started writing this, I was thinking of a friend who is going through an interesting and challenging life adventure right now who recently started a blog.\u00a0 As I thought about him and what he is writing these days, I said to myself, as if I was talking to him, &#8220;Do you talk to yourself?\u00a0 Write it down!&#8221;\u00a0 Since I was listening to myself, I took my own advice and wrote this down in the small notebook I carry with me everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Listening to my own thoughts, paying attention and then putting them on paper is like tapping a keg of beer.\u00a0 I take the pen, the word spigot, and wield it just so to release the words, to let\u00a0their inky flow fill the page,\u00a0the papery word\u00a0mug that is soon full of a cool and\u00a0frothy literary brew.\u00a0\u00a0Sometimes, I take\u00a0a swig of what I write and\u00a0am amazed that it tastes\u00a0pretty good.<\/p>\n<p>Take dictation from yourself.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I am\u00a0wondering if learning to take dictation from my inner voice helps and allows me to get at my own thoughts and feelings which I can not access from my usual, waking, conscious mind.<\/p>\n<p>I am\u00a0thinking that an artist combines a keen eye for reality with a gift for expression (writing, painting, drawing, sculpting, acting,\u00a0composing, performing, and on and on), with an attentiveness to that inner voice.<\/p>\n<p>I am\u00a0suspecting everyone is an artist to one degree or another, that all people can\u00a0perceive, be attentive, then express the result.\u00a0 The great writers and painters and performers do those three things so well,\u00a0other people will pay to read, to listen, to watch.\u00a0 Everyone can do these three things, I think, well enough to have fun and maybe, just maybe, experience some healing.<\/p>\n<p>I am experiencing the health and healing writing my own words can foster.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll make a deal with my exercising relatives: I will\u00a0exercise for every day per week they write at least one paragraph in a journal.<\/p>\n<p>Voices in my head?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Not voices.\u00a0 A voice.\u00a0 The voice.\u00a0 Am I crazy?\u00a0 Not if I recognize it as my own.<\/p>\n<p>Put yourself in a context of prayer, corporate worship, fasting, feasting and the voice you hear may be at least part of how God answers prayers.<\/p>\n<p>Do you talk to yourself?\u00a0 Write it down!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you talk to yourself?\u00a0 Write it down.\u00a0 Carry a small notebook with you wherever you go so you can be your own secretary, taking down the notes, the words, the ideas you are speaking in your own mind.\u00a0 Sitting &hellip; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/?p=5874\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[28,39,13],"tags":[719,943,60,1076],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5874"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=5874"}],"version-history":[{"count":12,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5874\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":6012,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5874\/revisions\/6012"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=5874"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=5874"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.thelifeliterary.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=5874"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
