Been making plans for me and words for this new year.\u00a0 Looking forward to another word-esque, word-filled, wordified 12 months.\u00a0 I’m writing these down in this public place to give them more oomph.\u00a0 It’s why I’m trying to make them realistic.\u00a0 I suggest to anyone setting a goal or making a plan to share it with someone else.\u00a0 Adds accountability to the process.<\/p>\n
My Word Plans for 2012<\/p>\n
1. Finish the first and then a second draft of Marigold Man<\/span>, share with three or four friends to read and critique, and then learn how to get a book published. Here are some things I might do but am not sure I’ll have time:<\/p>\n 1. Make money from at least one item I’ve written.\u00a0 (Figure out how to and attempt it, that is.) \n2. Read: The Human Comedy<\/span> by William Saroyan, Slaughterhouse-Five<\/span> by Kurt Vonnegut, a book on Robert Burns, and one play by Shakespeare.\u00a0 I might read more, but for sure these four.
\n3. Finish writing “Among the Liberators: A Walk Along Virginia Avenue.”
\n4.\u00a0 Post at least three new essays per week in this blog (This is less than last year.\u00a0 I want to make sure I have time for Marigold Man.)
\n5. Memorize four new poems.
\n6. Learn the list of poems I’ve already memorized and review the ones I don’t completely remember.
\n7. Be the Chairman of Burns Supper IV (…but of course this almost goes without saying…we’ve already set the date…January 28…you gonna be in the neighborhood ’round then?…please join us…!).
\n8. Set up two new galleries of photos (and captions, of course…the words are what it’s all about, right?) on the Life Literary’s Smugmug site.<\/p>\n
\n2. Participate in National Novel Writing Month again next November.\u00a0 I have ideas for two or maybe three more novels, but I don’t want to start another if the first isn’t finished or at least almost so.
\n3. Write a short story or two.\u00a0 I have ideas for several.\u00a0 I would shoot for four to six thousand words each.
\n4. Take an online course on some aspect of writing.
\n5. Write a brief, creative phrase or sentence on the calendar four days of every week as a running journal of what I did that day.<\/p>\n
