How did\u00a0I end up\u00a0more than halfway up 11,000 foot Mount Hood?\u00a0 Nearly two weeks ago we toured Portland, an urban jewel set in a\u00a0mossed-tree temperate rain forest.\u00a0 Then, a drive south along the Oregon Coast oohing and aahing at dramatic waves crashing into steep rocky shores.\u00a0 Then back north up the state’s flat, fertile mid-section.\u00a0 Is this Indiana?\u00a0 Next, a drive along the Columbia River’s gorgeous\u00a0Gorge, from the dramatic green\u00a0west to the dramatic brown east.\u00a0 Now, we\u00a0are exploring the glories of this large, circa 1937\u00a0stone and log lodge called Timberline, both a museum\u00a0and a\u00a0place to sleep.\u00a0 Thirty foot snow drifts keep me from seeing out many of the first floor windows.\u00a0 A cloud keeps me from seeing Mount Hood, but I trust its still there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
