Usually, I will try to vary what I write from day to day in The Life Literary. This being Burns Supper crunch-time, I’m afraid an even heavier Burns-ish storm than what’s already blown in this week is going to hit this site tomorrow and continue for a few more days. All I can say is, it won’t go on forever.
One reason I started this venture in the first place is to collect my writing, old and new, all in one place. A blog is weirdly temporal, time-bound in a backwards sort of way. Each post appears at a certain time, pushing the ones that came before it toward the rear of the line. Doesn’t lend itself to a time like now when I have a lot to write and post in a short period of time.
Another point of this blog is to collect ways of living literarily. One of those is hosting literary events like a Burns Supper. I’d like to get a lot of what I have about Burns Suppers, at least what I’m preparing for this year’s event on paper in this location. It shows one of the realities of literary events: they require even more preparation than typical parties. What I’m suggesting is that they provide a unique sort of fun, give a significant uplift, and bring people together in a unique way that makes even a Burns Blizzard worthwhile.
